Sue Brady, Ross Egerton and Kath Jones (London) and Mike Richardson from Leiden (Netherlands) September 19th to October 4th 2009 Over the past 40 years of independent holidaying in France, in hotels and houses and camp sites I have never found anywhere so absolutely perfect as La Cordonnerie. This delightful cottage has been so well restored and appointed with the things that are really necessary to make the time spent there such a memorable pleasure. So many places only have the bare essentials but here we had everything we could possibly need to make our stay as comfortable as possible. To be able to BBQ and have dinner on the terrace just outside the door in the cool of the evening was so relaxing we didn't want to go out to eat in the evening. The pool is stunning and to have this facility just a few steps away from our door quite amazing.
For those who love the gentle lifestyle of the remote French countryside - look no further - it is here in abundance.
To gaze masses of stars in a moonlight sky at night and to wake to the sound of the church bells drifting over the hills and see the autumn mist in the valleys is difficult to adequately describe. As an added bonus during our stay, we were delighted to meet the owners and spend a fascinating time just chatting with them over a very nice bottle of wine.So many memories for such a short stay - we will be back."
Trudy and Mike Chappell, from Perth, Western australia end May, early June 2009 "We were fortunate to spend the first half of June 2009 at La Cordonnerie - and didn't want to leave! From the moment we first stepped into the gite we knew we had arrived somewhere special. Absolutely everything was provided for a comfortable stay, including carpet on all 3 levels (much warmer than cold tiles) and enough CD's, books and magazines to last a lifetime. The 'welcome' wines weren't half bad, either! Further discoveries included a kitchen that was equipped for an army and an extremely comfortable king-size bed in the huge main bedroom, which had the most wonderful views out over the undulating farm land. We loved the peace and serenity of the hamlet, especially waking up to bird song and the (distant) chiming of the old St Pantaleon church bells at 7 am. Quite magical!
La Cordonnerie very quickly came to feel like a second home as we ventured off each day to enjoy what the region had to offer. Lots, as it turned out! We really tried hard to see it all in our allotted 2 weeks, but there was just too much .. and we had to keep reminding ourselves that this was supposed to be a holiday, afterall. So our apologies, Lina and John, for our not having used the pool (which looked very inviting) or the several bikes available .. we just didn't have time! Thank you for a wonderful stay in a place we think is pretty close to paradise!
Mike "The Prof" from Leiden, the Netherlands who visited together with friends from UK Sep 20, 2009 "An idyll in France"
"It doesn't get much better than this. A small, 18th century farmhouse hidden deep in the rural surroundings of the Tarn Valley region of France. You can drive for miles through unspoilt country - a mix of vinyards, farming country, wild forests and ancient cities and town. Dont forget your sat nav - this is very sparsely populated terrain. There are fabulous mediaeval towns within driving distance, some of them with rural produce markets on a regular basis. If you like rural solitude, beautiful countryside, peace and quiet, and history, then this is for you.
The farmhouse itself is indeed small, but frankly you wont spend much time inside. It has all the necesaary amenities including TV, dishwasher, washing machine and a swimming pool. If you cant negotiate stairs then this is not for you. In the evening you can sit out on the patio and barbecue. It is very quiet and peaceful with only a few houses nearby - all inhabited by very friendly and courteous French people or British settlers. The owners of the farmhouse - one Brit gent, one Dutch lady, are delightful and unobtrusive, and if you like cycling, they have an array of bikes for loan (free of charge). It is great country for biking - very hilly and the roads with very little traffic. Dont bother taking your laptop and expect to do internetting because there is no network coverage: it is just too remote. We got an intermittent signal on our mobile phone but it came and went. There is of course a land line phone for emergencies. If you need to do internet you will have to drive to a big town and find an internet cafe.
We were there in late September 2009 and had absolutely glorious weather. Not hot at night but gloriously sunny in the day and hot enough to spend a lot of time at the pool with the occasional gin and tonic to keep us hydrated.
For wildlife lovers and naturalists, this a great area with plenty of hedgerows and forests. Spetember is not the best time for flowers but I could see evidence that there must have been orchids in the spring and plenty of plants that are rare in the UK. There was also evidence of a rich reptile fauna. For epicurians there are plenty of vinyards where you can drop in and taste the wares. Our experience was the wines on offer in this way were very good quality and very reasonable in price. I hate to say 'dirt cheap' but that phrase does come to mind. Needless to say the food to be had at restaurants here is stunningly good. Highly recomended."
Dave Bacon & family from Guernsey 2 weeks mid August 2009

Hi Lina, Just a few lines to let you know how much the four of us enjoyed our stay at La Cordonnerie. It was everything we'd hoped for - comfortable, quiet, stunning scenery and plenty of interesting places to visit, as well as the occasional lazy day by the pool. A canoe trip down the Aveyron wasn't the gentle paddle we'd expected, but quite a challenge for four intrepid 60-somethings! The only drawback from a personal point of view were the couple of summer thunderstorms we experienced, as one of us suffers a phobia regarding thunder and lightning, which obviously spoilt her enjoyment of an otherwise great holiday. We visited some of the local vineyards and returned home well stocked with some excellent and reasonably priced wines. Many thanks once again,

Comment from Owners: Unfortunately, in most of the south of France, thunderstorms occur during summer and can be very awesome. We regret these spoiling some of the holiday for Mrs Bacon, but it is like the Mistral (which we fortunately do NOT experience ) we have to accept these phenomena as part of the otherwise warm climate which being dry heat is much more tolerable than a tropical humidity.

Paul & Mies from the Netherlands 1st two weeks of Sept 2002 We enjoyed house, pool and surroundings. Pity we could not visit everything we wanted in the one week, what we did see, of this environment, was fantastic.
Maggie & Tony Sept 2004 Many thanks for making our stay in La Cordonnerie so enjoyable. We still certainly consider returning some time. (They did, a year later, stay another 2 weeks in September)
Hilary and Nas;  Jon and Mike 31 Aug 2004 Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home La Rocambole .We had a wonderful week there, with good food, superb wine and great company. Also we all enjoyed exploring the region, which was previously unknown to us.
Lynne and Nick 30 August 2002 NB they returned for 3 consecutive years to the gite.
We would just like to say how much we all enjoyed our holiday in Belaygue. The house was charming, full of character and everything was there that we needed to make our stay comfortable and trouble free. The children loved the garden and the swimming pool and they both learnt to dive with the aid of the spring board, so they were thrilled with their achievements.
We found Belaygue to be very relaxing, and tranquil just what we were looking for and we were blessed with glorious weather, which made the warm evenings playing Boule in the garden very enjoyable. Many thanks for the recommendations for the local restaurants, we visited quite  few and enjoyed all of them.
7 Sept 2003 Once again we had a lovely holiday with glorious weather and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet of Belaygue.
The new terrace you have built is a great improvement with the barbeque very well positioned and a lovely spot to sit outside and enjoy the long summer evenings.
The children loved the swimming pool again this year and some evenings during the really hot spell we were still swimming at 9 Pm.
Bill and Angela Autumn 2004 We just wished to say how very much we enjoyed la Cordonnerie, charmingly furnished, quiet and perfect for 2, lovely pool too.
Margaret and Graham 22 Oct 2003 provided us with the lovely photo of  the “window into Summer”
that features on the initial page of the website. They have been our regular guests in the gîte  for the last 4 years.
